For those who want to write for Greater Kashmir
Our contributors are our capital. We honor each word we receive from them. They add variety to our pages. An ever widening canvas of our writers including students, teachers, civil servants, technocrats and professionals from every field make an extended family of Greater Kashmir. We are overwhelmed by their warmth and participation. We keep receiving emails, phone calls through which our contributors seek to confirm the status of their writings and the criterion to get a piece published. Here do we explain.
How to contribute?
Email your articles and letters only at email@example.com and not on any other ID meant for news, advertisements, public notices etc. Contributions received on these IDs won't be entertained. You can leave your dispatch personally on our office counter or send it through post at Greater Kashmir, 6 Partap Park, Residency Road, Srinagar, Kashmir. Post Box No. 558 (GPO)
Length of the article, letter?
Your article should preferably range from 700 to 1100 words. Longer the article, longer it takes to get published and more difficult it is to place the same within the given space. Letters in response to the articles must be within 200 words. .
About the placement
The contributors can respond to an article in the form of an article also, but the discretion to publish that as a letter or as a separate column is editor's. No reasons are assigned about publishing or not publishing a particular piece or changing its placement or reducing its length .
Do we publish everything we receive?
Though we try to accommodate as much as we possibly can, still a lot goes unpublished. We hope our respected writers will cooperate with us in case their feedback doesn't find a place. Besides, to avoid the repetition of the content we are bound to end a particular debate somewhere to let other equally important issues find a place
How long does it take an article or a letter to get published?
Depends on the topicality of the issue, availability of space and the requirement of the layout. Sometimes articles are published sooner than expected, sometimes they take longer than usual. And some other times they don't appear at all.
Do we keep articles in the pipeline?
No we don't have a pipeline to keep your articles in. Neither do we keep anything pending with us. Your contribution may or may not find a space. We can neither assure you of a publication nor can we deny the possibility of getting it published.
How to inquire about the status of your dispatch?
Just wait for fifteen days at least from the day you send it. It's not possible for us to acknowledge each mail we receive and to inform our esteemed contributors about the probable date of publication. If it’s not published within fifteen days chances of its getting published are least
Can we confirm it on phone?
No. Since no definite reply can be sought on phone, there is no point calling. Phone calls are not appreciated.
Can we send the same piece to other newspapers?
Sure. Just one request. The article or letter sent to us must not be simultaneously mailed to any other newspaper or magazine. You can write for as many banners as you like, but to avoid the duplication of the material we request you to wait. If your contribution doesn't find a place within the stipulated time, you can send it anywhere you like. Or if you want to mail it meanwhile, we request you to inform us.
Can we write under pseudonyms?
Never. Mention all your particulars with the dispatch along-with your cell number and send a photograph. Moreover the responsibility (including any legal consequences) of sending any lifted or plagiarized piece lies with the contributor .
Shall we receive our contributions back, if not published??
No. Contributors are requested to have a copy with themselves as it may not be possible for us to keep a note of articles and letters and mailing it or sending it back.
