Srinagar: Chairman District Federation of Industries Varmul Jan Muhammad Kakroo today urged the government to initiate steps for promotion of industrial activities in district Varmul, a DFOI spokesman in a statement here said today.
In a meeting at Varmul today Kakroo said the district has been neglected by the authorities who have taken no steps for the promotion of industry. He said that even as the district has huge material resources, the government has failed to exploit these resources.
“The young and energetic people of this district are keen to set up industrial units but lack of facilities do not allow them to do so,” Kakro said adding that they feel highly depressed because of non-availability of land and other facilities.
The chairman also appealed the chief minister to immediately issue orders for the acquisition of land for establishment of various industrial estates. “The association has already identified state land at Jahama, which is very near to Highway. The present estates in the district have no space available. The Sopur estate is partly occupied by paramilitary forces,” he said.
Kakro said lack of finances, regular power supplies, development of present industrial estates and marketing facilities are some of the problems, which need immediate attention of the government.
The meeting was also addressed by Muhammad Ashraf Khan, president, FCI Varmul. The president appealed the authorities to help unemployed educated youth in the district to establish their own units.
