‘Artificial insemination facilities being augmented in Jammu’

Jammu, Dec 11: The Centre has agreed to provide funds for purchase of more cryocans so that the frozen semen facilities for artificial insemination of cattle and buffalo are extended to the breeders in the uncovered areas of the State.It has also been agreed to provide funds for establishment of more Liquid Nitrogan Plant in Jammu division.
This was stated at a high level meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Union Secretary for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Rudra Gangadharan. Rudra was on one day visit to State to take review of various centrally sponsored schemes under Sheep and Animal Husbandry sector in Jammu and Kashmir.Speaking on the occasion, Rudra stressed on timely utilization of funds and furnishing of utilization certificates and progress reports regularly for further release of funds. He gave stress on genetic upgradation of local non descript bovine population.
Rudra also assured that funding for purchase of Murrah breed of Buffalo Breeding Bulls for natural service in uncovered areas besides setting up of Bio-security Lab level-II at ARV Lab R. S. Pura. The Secretary was informed that two projects at a total cost of more than Rs 8 crore for development of backyard poultry have been formulated which are being submitted to Government of India. The project will benefit more than 30000 BPL families, which will be provided 60 chicks each for improving financial as well as nutritional requirements.
The Secretary emphasized to submit project reports at an earliest for release of funds. He also stressed upon the officers of Sheep Husbandry Department to take upon projects for upgradation of genetic make up of Sheep population in the State for improvement of wool and mutton production.
The Secretary, Fisheries, Shantmanu, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, B. D. Sharma, Dr. Y. V. Gupta, Dr. J. L. Mattoo, Directors, of Animal Husbandry, Jammu/ Kashmir respectively, Directors, of Fisheries, Sheep Husbandry, Jammu and other senior officers of the departments participated in the meeting.
