Extortion victim questions probe

Srinagar, June 13: A victim of extortion and kidnapping case in which DIG Varmul had found two cops involved has questioned the inquiry.
Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, who had filed a petition in the High Court said, apart from two cops a senior official was also involved.
“The investigation has been handed over to a junior official,” he added.
“Our argument is that civilians exonerated in the case are also involved. Besides, how come a junior officer will initiate inquiry against senior officer,” said Irshad. The High Court had directed police to present the status of the investigation before the Court on June 23.  
On Saturday the Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir suspended two policemen involved in kidnapping and extortion.
Head constable Muhammad Yousuf No. 359/KP and constable Farooq Ahmad No. 301/KP were suspended by DIG, NKR, and strict disciplinary action was ordered against the duo, police sources said.
They said the duo was found involved in the case of kidnapping for extortion of Irshad, resident of Branwari in Kupwara. The incident took place on April 15, 2010.
