Geelani calls for shutdown today

‘MARCH TOWARDS SAIDA KADAL’

Srinagar, June 13: The Hurriyat Conference (G) has called for Kashmir bandh on Monday against the killing of teenaged, Tufail Ahmad Matoo, in police action at Rajouri Kadal on Friday. The conglomerate has also called for Saida Kadal chalo to express solidarity with victim’s family.  
“We urge the people to observe a complete shutdown against the killing and march towards Saida Kadal. Strikes may affect our economy and education of our children but lives of our youngsters have greater significance than anything else,” a spokesman of Hurriyat (G) said in a statement. 
 On the use of force by police, he said, “Instead of using teargas shells, police is using the shells which are otherwise used in military operations.”
 He said Tufail’s killing was not the first of its kind. “There have been similar killings in the past. In last few months police and forces have been targeting teenagers at will as they have been given unbridled powers.”    
 Meanwhile, the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was admitted in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday after he complained of pain during his detention at the Central jail here.
 Geelani who was detained at the Humhama Police Station since yesterday was shifted to Central Jail this morning. “However, Geelani Sahib complained of chest pain and suffocation after which he was shifted to SKIMS,” his spokesman, Ayaz Akbar told Greater Kashmir.
 The SKIMS Medical Superintendent, M A Tabish, said Geelani had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. “He is under observation and out of danger,” he added.
 Pertinently, Police had arrested Geelani on Saturday. 
DEM SUPPORTS CHALO CALL 
 The chairperson of  Dukhtaran-i-Milat, Asiya Andrabi has extended its support to the Hurriyat’s call for Saida Kadal chalo on Monday.
 In a statement Asiya appealed people to join the march.
