‘Boost saffron production in JK’

Jammu, Dec 22: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today reviewed the functioning of various wings of Agriculture Department and schemes under execution in the state at a meeting of officers here this morning.
 The Minister took stock of the availability of fertilizers in the state for the current Rabi season. He was told that adequate quantity of fertilizers has been stocked by various companies and farmers have easy availability of the same.
 Reviewing the position of Saffron cultivation in the State, the  Minister directed for taking all possible steps to boost its production, adding that Jammu and Kashmir has the distinction of being the only State in the country, producing this prestigious spice. He directed the officers of Irrigation & Flood Control to make necessary arrangement for ensuring uninterrupted irrigation facilities for Saffron fields.
 Mir also reviewed the execution of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes in Agriculture sector in the State like Command Area, Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojna (RKVY) etc. and impressed upon the officers to extend the benefits of these schemes to the farming community.
 The Minister directed the heads of Agriculture wings to strictly adhere to the calendar of agriculture activities and make the necessary inputs like seeds, fertilizers and appliances available to farmers well in time.
 Prominent among those present in the meeting were Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Sonali Kumar and other senior officers.
