Pak to allow Afghan products' export to India through Wagah
REZAUL H LASKAR
Islamabad, Dec 22: Pakistan will allow the export of Afghan products to India by the Wagah land border for the first time, but has not cleared the issue of reciprocal trade by India to Afghanistan.
Though a formal agreement is expected to be signed later, an understanding on the issue was reached during three days of negotiations between technical experts of Afghanistan and Pakistan here.
As a result of this understanding, Afghan trucks with goods meant for a third country will be allowed to enter Pakistan for the first time.
The trucks will travel up to the Wagah land border to off-load goods meant for India, 'Dawn' newspaper reported today, without mentioning when the export of Afghan products to India through this route would begin.
The understanding does not allow Indian exports to Afghanistan through Pakistan.
"The Afghan delegation has been informed that the issue of allowing two-way trade between Afghanistan and India cannot be discussed at this forum," a member of the Pakistani delegation that participated in the talks was quoted as saying by the daily.
The issue of two-way trade can be decided in the composite dialogue between India and Pakistan, the unnamed official said.
The composite dialogue was put on hold by India following last year's Mumbai attacks.
