When Mayor met Abbas Ansari

Colony woes, Muharram arrangements discussed

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Dec 22: It was the mainstream and pro-freedom camps Tuesday coming face-to-face only to discuss civic issues when the Mayor, Salman Ali Sagar, called on senior Hurriyat leader and cleric, Molvi Abbas Ansari, at latter’s residence in Shahr-e-Khaas.
Insiders said Ansari complained to the Mayor that his native Mohalla of Khanqah-e-Sokhta was being neglected only because of his being a pro-freedom leader.
Referring to the dilapidated lanes in the colony interiors and absence of streetlights there, Ansari said the entire area was suffering because of him.
“My residence is a cause of inconvenience for the locality,” insiders quoted Ansari of having said.
The Mayor assured that the due attention would be paid towards the development of the area. He also instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to install streetlights there at an earliest. The meeting lasted for around half-an-hour.
However, talking to media, Sagar said there was “no politics behind the meeting.”
“There’s no politics attached to it,” the Mayor told Greater Kashmir.
“It was just a courtesy visit because (he) Ansari happens to be Shia leader and we sought his opinion on Muharram arrangements,” he added.
Meanwhile, an official handout said, the Mayor visited Kani Kuch,  Moti Mohalla, Zaildar Mohalla and Akhoon Mohalla Saida Kadal. He directed the SMC officials to start immediate repairs of roads and install lights in the lane leading to the house of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Nagoo.
