Marketing workshop on handicrafts held

Srinagar, Dec 26: With an aim to create awareness about its different schemes, a state-level workshop on handicrafts was organized by the Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, here on Saturday. Hundreds of artisans, stakeholders including NGOs and entrepreneurs participated in the workshop, a statement here said today. Deputy director Ms Shaheena said the objective of the workshop was to make the stakeholders abreast of various schemes for uplift and promotion of handicrafts. On the occasion AK Handoo, regional director, Northern Region Development Commissioner Handicrafts, delivered inaugural address.
Kumar Gautam, policy advocacy coordinator AIACA New Delhi highlighted the importance of Geographical Indication Act.
Bindoo Ranjan, design consultant NID Ahmedabad deliberated the importance of design development in handicrafts marketing and diversification in designing. “There is need to adopt improved technology and brand building in handicrafts,” Ranjan said.
Afrooza of ICICI Lombard spoke on various aspects of Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthya Bima Yojana (RGSSBY). On the occasion ICICI Lombard had also arranged a health camp. The workshop was followed by a question-answer session. It was resolved to redress all grievances for effective implementation of the schemes.
