PDP raises pitch against price rise

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Dec 30: Peoples Democratic Party has resolved to raise the level of its activities through out the state to focus on the failure of the state government to provide basic amenities to people.
This was decided at a meeting of the district Presidents and Zonal Presidents and other office bearers of Kashmir Division held today under the chairman ship of Party President Mehbooba Mufti. Senior leaders including Tariq Hameed Karra participated in the meeting.
Speaking   on the occasion the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said the government has failed on all fronts and had become almost invisible throughout the state. It was trying to keep itself in news only through phoney press statements, Photo opportunities and ribbon cutting of projects that were executed by the previous coalition government.
Mehbooba said power situation in the state had worsened each day after the present government took over.  She said it seems no body was incharge of government as the ministers made announcements about improvement in power scenario which was followed up by the department with increased curtailments.
She said the announcement made about creating a transformer bank proved yet another false promise by the government as many villages were reeling under darkness because of damaged transformers.
Mehhbooba said scarcity of rations had created a famine like situation in most areas. Food grains, sugar and kerosene oil had virtually vanished from government depots and the people had to come on streets to fight for routine services expected of a government.
She said it was beyond comprehension as to what had happened to rations or power supply within only a few months of the present government assuming office. She said the same level of ration and power was available till last year and every body was satisfied with the situation but corruption and mismanagement had resulted in deterioration of supply position.
Referring to the steep rise in prices PDP President said it seemed price control was nobody’s business. She said the sharp increase in prices of edible and essential commodities had broken the back of common people and government was busy doing nothing about it. Mehbooba asked the party functionaries and office bearers to channalise the problems of the people peacefully within the democratic system and make them aware of their rights. She said the party must oppose all strong arm methods of the government to silence the people’s voice and should lead the struggle for rights from the front. The meeting also reviewed the membership drive currently going on. It was decided to speedup the drive and try to enlist all sections of society and especially youth and women.
