'New Education courses to boost employability'

Jammu, Dec 4: Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik has called upon the youth to focus on skill upgradation besides academics for improving their chances of employability, adding that Government is opening a number of Polytechnics and Industrial Trainings Institutes (ITI’s) for skill upgradation in youth.
 Speaking at an annual function of Government Degree College, Bhadarwah, the Minister said that in pursuit of higher education, the students should focus on improving their prospects of employment. He said that with an objective of instilling entrepreneurship among the youth, new vocational courses are being introduced in colleges for development of creativity and vocational skills, so that youth of the State can venture into self-employment projects rather than chasing Government jobs.
Lauding the academic achievements registered by the college, Malik said that the alumni of the college have been playing an important role in the social and administrative fields both at the State as well as national level. He said that Government is paying attention on improvement of infrastructure in various educational institutions, adding that strict directions have been issued to focus on equipping the educational institutions with basic infrastructure.
Minister of State for Cooperatives and Higher Education, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, who was also present on the occasion, evinced keen interest in the achievements registered by the college in academic and co-curricular activities. He said that colleges play a monumental role in shaping the destiny of the nation and added that students in colleges are at a crucial juncture where they have to make important decisions regarding their future. He said that influences gained during college time have lasting impact on the students and advised the teachers to guide the students to right direction.
A cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by the college students depicting the varied culture of the State.
Earlier, the Principal of the College presented the annual report mentioning the achievements of the college during the last academic year.
MLA Bhadarwah, Mohammad Sharief Niaz and Khalid Najeeb Soharwardi were also present on the occasion.
