Srinagar, Dec 8: Hosts Andra Pradesh managed to put up a decent score of 287 runs at the end of first days play in a Ranji Trophy plate Group-B match against Jammu and Kashmir at Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur on Tuesday.
JK won the toss and asked AP to bat on a batting track. AP openers, HH Watekar and LNP Reddy dashed hopes of early wickets for JK as they put on 50 runs for the first wicket. They thrashed Abid Nabi and Samiullah to all parts of the field. It was first change in bowler Sameer Ali who did the trick for JK by grabbing two quick wickets. He sent both the openers back to the pavilion. Abid back into the attack shortly also bagged two quick wickets and at that time AP was struggling at 105 for four.
Sameer bagged two more wickets, which pushed AP at 129 for six. At that time JK was in commanding position and it looked that their decision of fielding first was right. All the frontline batsmen of AP were back in the pavilion with only tail left.
Contrary to JK hopes AP tail frustrated them and there was big partnership for seventh wicket between Sahabuddin and Shankara Rao. They put on 110 runs. Sahabuddin was out for 52 while Shankara Rao for 66.
At the end days play AP was on 287 for the loss of eight wickets with D Shivkumar batting on 17 and T Atchuti Rao on 25. For JK Sameer Ali took four, Abid Nabi three and Mahajan one wicket.
On Wednesday JK would be hoping to quickly wrap up two remaining wickets and then overhaul the score in order to get first inning lead points.
