Majlis calls for Shopian Bandh on Thursday
KHALID GUL
Shopian, Dec 8: Majlis-i-Mashawrat, the body spearheading the agitation for justice to Shopian rape and murder victims Asiya and Neelofar, has called for Shopian Bandh on December 10 to mark the international human rights day.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, General Secretary of the Majlis, Abdul Hameed Deva said, “We have called for the strike to invite the attention of human rights organizations towards the grave rights violation of rape and murder of two innocent women of Shopian.”
Deva said the people of Shopian have been asked to assemble outside Jamia Masjid where a sit-in protest will be observed.
“Shutdown and sit-in on the December 10 will be a wake-up call for those who claim to be the champions of human rights,” Deva said, adding “It is a slap on the face of Indian democracy that human rights violations like gang rape and murder are considered mere accidents.”
