Masoodi takes oath as HC judge on Friday

Srinagar, Nov 11: The principal district and sessions judge, Srinagar, Hasnian Masoodi has been elevated as additional judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
Harvard educated Masoodi will take oath as additional judge of the state High Court on November 13 (Friday) at High Court complex Janipur in Jammu.
President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil had issued the orders for elevation of Hasnain Masoodi as additional judge of J&K High Court.
Born on January 2, 1954 at Khrew, Masoodi belongs to highly educated family. His parents Ghulam Ali Masoodi and Zainab Khatoon were known educationists.
His mother Zainab Khatoon was pioneer in women education as she established first school for girls in the area in 1938.
Masoodi had his early education at a government school at Khrew. He graduated from S P College Srinagar and did LLB from Kashmir University where he secured first position. He was awarded certificate of merit on 3rd annual convocation of the Kashmir University.
After a brief stint at Bar, he appeared in Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Judicial) examination and passed it with first rank in the state.
He was appointed as Munsiff, JMIC on November 16, 1982. He was also selected for Kashmir Administrative Services in 1984 but he decided to continue as a judicial officer.
Masoodi proceeded for Higher Education to the United States in 1992 and did his Master’s in Laws from Harvard University Massachusetts with constitutional, administrative, environmental and planning law as major subject areas.
During his career as judge spreading over the period of 27 years he has held important positions in the district judiciary and High Court registry. He has served as registrar vigilance, principal secretary to the Chief Justice, register general of the High Court, special judge anti-corruption Kashmir and principal district and sessions judge Budgam and Srinagar. He has played a significant role to strengthen the institution of Lok Adalat and legal service in the state.
