TAAK to hold tourism expo

Srinagar, Nov 14: Endeavouring to promote Kashmir as round-the-year tourism destination, the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir, TAAK, today chalked out its calendar of tourism related activities for the coming year.
At its general council meet with its president Rauf Tramboo in chair, the association resolved to make 2010 a year of great success for tourism and promote Kashmir a round the year tourism destination.
The association would conduct its activities with the slogan: Kashmir, Any Time – Every Time.
Giving details Rauf told Greater Kashmir that the association will participate in all tourism related fairs and trade marts in India to showcase the great tourism potential of J&K.
“In January 2010 TAAK will hold its week long Kashmir Expo in the south Indian city of Hyderabad to attract the pilgrim and leisure tourists to the state. In this Expo, besides highlighting the different segments of tourism like adventure, pleasure, pilgrim in the state, the other tourism related events like Kashmir Art & Culture, Kashmir handicrafts, floriculture, and horticulture will be showcased and also Kashmir’s age old history of Sufism and Shivism will be highlighted.”
He said TAAK was already in touch with Kashmir’s leading theatre and cultural groups, handicrafts companies and horticulture producers for the joint venture and co-operation in making this Kashmir Expo a great success for attracting the potential tourists of southern states to the enchanting vale of Kashmir.
TAAK will also take part in all the TTFs and ITMs in India and will have its own pavilion at Mumbai TTF in February 2010.
It was decided that TAAK will hold a meeting with the tourism minister to apprise him about the problems and difficulties tour operators are facing while promoting and selling Kashmir.
A formal request will be made to the department for providing the funds to tour operators of the valley for printing their broachers and publicity materials for tourism promotions and also to provide the soft loans for building their infrastructure in their offices plus for purchasing the adventure related equipments like tents etc.
