Paper Shortage Hits BOSE
Students denied continuation sheets
GOWHAR BHAT
Srinagar, Nov 17: The non-availability of continuation answer sheets at the examination centres here has left the students and their parents fuming against the state Board of School Education.
On Monday, the students appearing in the mathematics paper of class XII exam at Caset Higher Secondary School, Karan Nagar exam centre were clearly told by invigilators that no continuation answer sheets were available in the centre.
“When we asked for the continuation sheets, the invigilators said they didn’t have any available with them. We were made to wait for half an hour and when we protested, they only provided a few sheets,” the students said.
“The examiners had promised us that we would be given the extra time which the invigilators had wasted, but in the end they didn’t,” the students rued.
The candidates said there was shortage of the answer sheets from the very first day when the examination started. “But today we needed more answer sheets during the examination of mathematics paper as the answers were lengthy,” said a student, wishing not to be named.
“Usually students aren’t allowed to write of the 1st page of answer sheets but we were compelled to write on them too,” he said. “It seems paper shortage has hit BOSE.”
The parents, who have lodged their protest with the BOSE officials, accused the board of trifling with the career of their wards.
“Ahead of exams, students are made to pay hundreds of rupees as fee while submitting the examination forms. But it unfortunate that ample stationary isn’t available at exam centres,” a group of parents told Greater Kashmir.
Secretary BOSE, Bashir Ahmad, said the board had received similar complaints and these would be looked into.
“We usually provide more-than-needed stationary at exam centres. But we will look in to the matter,” he said. “Any invigilator or superintendent who would be found having denied answer sheets to students would be dealt sternly and would be barred for doing any further duties,” he said.
