Dal crisis

This refers to the article titled “Dal Crisis” by Dr. M R D Kundangar. It is very unfortunate that the once famed Dal Lake is dying due to the mismanagement of the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA). It is also pathetic to see that we are polluting this asset in whatever the way we can. We don’t care about its future. What can save the Lake from becoming a thing of the past is the continuous de-weeding, dredging and construction of settling basins and low cost latrines away from Dal Lake. Besides there is need to fence its catchments area. We also need to go for mass awareness programmes like seminars to educate people about the importance of this lake.
