Fire, negligence leave 9 families homeless in Pakherpora

Srinagar, Nov 4: Nine houses, four cowsheds and two kitchen blocks were destroyed in a devastating fire at Pakherpora, Budgam this afternoon. The loss estimated at about a crore of rupees has been caused partly due to the alleged official negligence.
According to reports, the director-general, Fire and Emergency Services, G A Bhat, has attached the assistant director with the joint director, Kashmir’s office and suspended two other employees of the local fire station for alleged negligence in discharging their duties which resulted in huge loss of property.
The minister for Rural Development, Ali Muhammad Sagar, has expressed grief over the incident and sympathised with the sufferers. He assured the families would be given due compensation. Two civilians received burn injuries while trying to extinguish the fire. Shakeel Ahmad Dar Son of Assadullah Dar whose condition is stated to be critical has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment. Meanwhile, police has registered a case and is investigating the cause of the fire.
