Conference on Bile Duct Diseases concludes in SKIMS

Srinagar, Oct 10: The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with the prestigious International Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association, Indian Section, organized two-day conference on “Bile Duct Diseases” on the 9th and 10th of October.
The goals of the conference were- finding effective treatment for the disorders of the biliary tree, promoting understanding, encourage change, study problems, strive towards highest ethical standards and foster education, develop protocols and improvise surgical skill in the field.
Distinguished Hepatobiliary surgeons of national fame delivered lectures to promote understanding of the causes, investigations and treatment of various disorders biliary tree which are common in the valley, like cancers of the bile duct, stone diseases, injuries associated with gallstone surgeries and the congenital diseases like Choledochal cyst.
Stalwarts in the field like Prof Jagannath, president-elect Asia-Pacific IHPBA, President of IHPBA India Prof Avinash Supe, Prof MS Khuroo, Prof RA Sastry, Prof Rajeev Joshi, Prof Khandelwal, Prof SA Zargar, Prof Omar J Shah and organizing secretary Dr Sadaf Ali created an atmosphere to encourage the interchange of clinical and scientific knowledge among surgeons and members of related disciplines working in this field.
The organizers made the state proud by having the living legend in the field, Prof Simaran Nundy, joining them as the guest of honor. The event also showcased the achievements of the surgeons of the valley and the delegates appreciated the quality and the work being done in the SKIMS.
Most of the general surgeons from district and sub-district hospital participated actively to update their knowledge on the subject. Organizers visioned an interdisciplinary academic forum for surgeons, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, therapeutic endoscopists, minimal access surgeons, pathologists and radiologists interested in management of diseases of Biliary Tract. The organizers pledged to hold more such events in the future.
