Neelam Kapoor visits KU
INTERACTS WITH MERC STUDENTS

Srinagar, Oct 14: Neelam Kapoor , Principal Director General (Media and Communication ) Press information Bureau (PIB) Ministry of information and Broadcasting Government of India on Wednesday interacted with the students of Kashmir University’s Media Education Research Centre (MERC).
An official handout said: “She spoke on the various aspects of the PIB functioning and took many queries from staff and the students of MERC.”
Dr Shahid Rasool Head MERC , Tariq A Rather Media and Communication Officer PIB, Nasir Mirza ,Dr Sabia Mufti, Dr Zara Malik , Khursheed Wani faculty MERC were present on the occasion.
Neelam in her speech spoke on topics like freedom of press , development communication , and impact of market economy on reportage.
Saying that market economy has become a “fact of life”, Neelam admitted that opinions and editorials can be presented in shades of grey under different influences.
But she quickly added “truth prevails and good reportage is always objective.”
To a question from a student whether PIB will help to impart some training to MERC students in specialized areas Kapoor said that her department would facilitate some kind of collaboration with Indian Institute of Mass Communication New Delhi to train MERC students. She announced that government has plans to set up an IIMC at Srinagar as well.
Earlier Dr Shahid Rasool Head MERC welcomed the guests. Nasir Mirza senior faculty MERC presented vote of thanks.
