Undue favour

This refers to the news report on early school examinations in some schools despite a DSEK order asking all schools not to hold any examination before October 10. This is really a sorry state of the affairs of the Education Department that it gives undue relaxation to some blue-eyed schools. As per the news reports, the erring private schools had accused the authorities of indulging in “cheap tactics” of issuing circulars only to get their nears and dears admitted in the schools. This allegation holds weight because despite brazen violation of the government orders, the DSEK didn’t react and instead pleaded that some private schools could violate the orders. The violation has come close at a time when new admissions taking place. And DSEK’s apparent surrender before the private schools makes us raise eye-brows. Chief minister must hold an inquiry into the matter. Otherwise if rules are meant to be violated by the erring schools why does DSEK make a fun of its authority and at the same time put the career of students at stake. This all holds true for DSEK by allowing conduction of early exams in violation to its own orders. The government must at once cancel all date-sheets of the schools which are starting exams before October 10. Let DSEK not set a bad precedent by allowing something illegal. In other states, like New Delhi, the governments are serious to reduce the burden on school children, but the DSEK is trifling with their career, which can only be condemned.
