‘Jaswant’s book on Jinnah well researched’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Sept 2: Noted columnist and political commentator, G M Zahid, today reviewed the book Jinnah: India Partition Independence by Jaswant Singh at an impressive panel discussion organized by the International Resource Cell of Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir, at the Ibni Khaldoon Auditorium.
Senior journalist, Muhammad Sayeed Malik, and Prof Noor Muhammad Baba, Prof Muhammad Ashraf Wani and Prof Gul Muhammad Wani of the University were the panelists.
The reviewer touched upon various aspects of the book chapter by chapter saying it was well researched. However, he said, its scholarship was getting drowned in political cacophony.
“We have to look at the book as a book,” said Zahid, adding its added importance was because it was written by a person whose political moorings were in the “hate culture of Hindutva.” He said objectivity of the book suggested that the mindset of Indian politicians about partition had started changing as a whole.
Later, Zahid took questions from the panelists and audience and beautifully answered them. He was applauded for the way he discussed various aspects of the book.
Earlier, the chief librarian of the University, Riyaz A Rufai, welcomed the panelists and the speaker and saying the book review sessions gave an opportunity to participants to
peep into the book while encouraging a reading spirit among the people.
