Inter-college quiz, symposium held

Srinagar, Sept 29: An inter-college quiz and symposium on challenges in conservation and management of wildlife in Jammu and Kashmir was held at Government College for Women M A Road on Tuesday.
The event was organised by the Wildlife Protection Department, Non Government Organization SOS, in collaboration with the College’s department of Zoology.
Addressing the gathering, the head of the department Zoology Prof Nasreen Malik underscored the need to protect, conserve and propagate the varied wildlife species of the State by creating more awareness regarding the protected areas including national parks and sanctuaries.
She said the increasing population, unplanned expansion and development and deforestation was continuously disturbing the ecology and engendering the forests.
The quiz competition, organised by the college in which five educational institutions participated, was won by the students from Amar Singh College.
According to a college official the result of symposium would be declared in few days.
The wildlife warden Kashmir, Rashid Naqash gave also gave a brief report about conservation and management of wildlife in the State.
