Babur Reyan Lane complains pollution of canal
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Apr 1: The residents of Babur Reyan Lane, Iqbal Colony, Zainakot have said the colony sewage was flowing directly into irrigation canal due to “faulty drainage network.”
The General Secretary of the Welfare Committee for the lane, Farqooq Ahmed Mir in a statement said: “The sewage of Rose Avenue colony, Gazali Abad and the adjoining areas is being pumped into the already existing irrigation canal which runs through the BR Lane of Iqbal Colony.”
“The entire canal has got filled with the sewage. There is no outlet where from it can make a way out,” he added.
With rise in temperature, he said, the canal had turned stenchy adding the locals fear outbreak of an epidemic in such “unhygienic conditions”.
The locals appealed the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control department to look into the matter.
