Families refute police claim
KUPWARA ARRESTS
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Kupwara (Handwara), Apr 11: A day after army claimed it arrested three militants in this frontier district, their families on Sunday accused troopers of implicating them on false and frivolous charges.
“We appeal the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Defence Minister to probe the allegations leveled against our children. If they are found involved in militancy then they should be punished and if they are found innocent then the guilty should be punished. We are too poor to fight the case and we appeal the top army officials to investigate the matter and help us in securing their release,” families of arrested youth hailing from Warpora Magam told Greater Kashmir.Pertinently, police on Saturday had claimed that troops of 6-Rashtriya Rifles arrested three militants, Bilal Ahmad Wani, Imran Ahmad Wani and Muhammad Ashraf Gojri from Handwara.
However, families of the arrested youth contested the police claim saying, “Army had laid trap to implicate them. An army informer called them to Handwara and got them arrested by the troopers of 6-RR.”
When contacted commanding officer of 6-RR told Greater Kashmir that they were carrying weapons with them. Asked whether the person (name withheld) alleged to be an army informer was with the arrested trio, he said, “No”
A police official on condition on anonymity said that trio was handed to police by army.“We have no records about their past involvement and we registered case against them on FIR lodged by the army,” he added.
