Leh road to open for light vehicles from Apr 16

Srinagar, Apr 13: Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, along with MLA Zanskar Feroz Ahmad Khan, District Development Commissioner Ganderbal and Chief Engineer BEACON inspected the condition of Srinagar-Leh road at Zojila Tuesday. It was decided that the road will be thrown open for light vehicles from April 16 including Tata Mobile vehicles. However, all type of vehicles will be allowed on this road from April 20.
It was also decided that the vehicles from Kargil to Srinagar shall cross Sonamarg up to 9 am while the vehicles from Sonamarg to Kargil shall cross Gumri up to 10 am. These timings will be in force from April 16 to April 19.
Similarly, all the vehicles coming from Leh to Srinagar from April 20 have to cross Gumri up to 10 am while the vehicles from Sonamarg to Leh shall cross Gumri from 11 am to 3 pm.
After 3 pm, no vehicle will be allowed to ply on the road as the road has to be taken up by BEACON authorities for improvement and up-gradation purposes.
At Zero Point, the minister and other authorities were received by CEO Kargil Hill Development Council, Kachoo Ahmad Khan and others.
