Dr. Israr Ahmad – the man with a mission
This refers to the death of an eminent scholar, Dr. Israr Ahmad. Trained to be a doctor, his calling was elsewhere and medicine took a backseat as the man dedicated his whole life to a mission. While young he came under the influence of the great Islamic scholar, Syed Abu Ala Maududi. Thus he joined Jamaate-Islami. On idealogical differences however he was later to resign from the organisation. He started his own organisation 'Tanzeem-i-Islami ' which worked and continues to do so with fervour in service of Islam.
Israr Sahib since early days preached Quranic values and principles with untiring commitment and enthusiasm. He attempted to infuse new life in the Muslim world. He brought about a socio-political awakening. He was perhaps the first Islamic scholar to take recourse to modern technological advances in spreading the message, Israr Sahib appeared on numerous Television shows much before others. Thus he was to become a link between tradition and modernity in getting across the word of God. He had his admirers all across the Muslim world.
He had some gifted qualities. His expression, his knowledge, his insight and clarity – all this earned him a huge following. May his soul rest in peace.
Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah
