Polio vaccination prog in 5-districts of Jmu on Apr 25
SYED AMJAD SHAH
Jammu, Apr 18: Following the detection of a polio case in the outskirts of Jammu city last month, the health department has decided to go for another round of polio vaccination programme in the targeted five districts of Jammu region on April 25.
“We have decided to launch another round of polio vaccination in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Rajouri and Jammu districts to ensure vaccination of all the children below five years so that the chances of any fresh case may be reduced,” Dr Shahid Rehman Mughal Chief Medial Officer at Directorate of Health Jammu told Greater Kashmir.
He said, the health department launches vaccination and awareness programmes in the targeted areas routinely. Such programmes are also organized to spread awareness among the masses about necessity of polio vaccination, he added.
The polio case detected recently from Narwal area was a non-local female child, who had illegally migrated along with her family from Burma to Punjab and then to Jammu.
“The child is paralysed now and is presently putting up at Nagrota,” the CMO said adding, “The child was not administered with the first polio drops”.
He said the health department, immediately after detecting the first case of polio in the state, launched an extensive campaign in all the five districts of Jammu on March 28.
