Jamiat University bill moved

Jammu, Apr 1: MLA Kupwara Mir Saifullah Thursday moved a Private Member’s bill in the assembly seeking establishment of a residential and technical university in Jammu and Kashmir. The bill was, however, referred to a select committee for review.
 “There is no financial implication as Jamiat-e-Ahli-Hadith and its associated trusts- Salfia Muslim Educational and Research Trust and Wakaf Tanzeem Trust - have enough resources to run a technical university. The university will focus on providing Islamic, scientific, technical and latest education to the youth,” Mir Saifullah said while moving the bill.
 For this purpose, Saifullah said over 100 kanals of land has also been allotted in Kashmir valley following a cabinet decision of Feb 15, 2008.
 With a membership of nearly 15 lakhs and 125 schools, the trust, according to Mir, has its own teachers and resources.
 He questioned the need to send the bill to select committee since the trust has its own resources and did not need financial support from the government.
However, Minister for Higher Education replied that the bill would be sent to the select committee for review.
