Maharaja Bazar protests ‘high handedness’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Apr 1: The commercial hub of Maharaja Bazar observed a shutdown for some hours Thursday as traders took to streets against what they said “official high handedness” and detention of their colleague.
The trouble erupted during an anti-polythene drive in the area. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Meraj Ahmed Kakroo accompanied by other officials from police and civil administration inspected the area and confiscated polythene bags from some shopkeepers.
During the drive, a trader, as per eye witnesses argued with the inspection team saying “why ban on the polythene bags alone and no check on the sale of milk being sold in polythene packs?”
“If ban has to implemented in its true spirit than the blue eyed dealing with the packed milk business shouldn’t be spared,” the trader said.
On this the team got annoyed and asked the police to whisk away the salesman, Tariq Ahmed.
The moment, he was detained, his colleagues took to streets protesting the “high handedness”.
They downed the shutters seeking immediate release of their colleague who was later released.
