Correlate Iqbal with contemporary world: Prof Punjabi

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Apr 21: The Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Riyaz Punjabi Wednesday asked the youth to correlate Dr Sir Muhammad Iqbal (RA)’s ideology with contemporary world and “make themselves visible on the map of intellect”.
“We need to ponder on the relevance of Iqbal in today’s times,” Prof Punjabi said while delivering his presidential address at the 2day seminar on Solution to Contemporary Problems in the Light of Iqbal’s Ideology.
Referring to world famed lectures by Iqbal published in Reconstruction of Religious thought in Islam, the VC talked about the “law of movement” in Islam saying: “Stagnation is unnatural therefore movement in life and thought is the only way forward.”
“Keep your minds open and reject or accept a thought only after proper argument,” the VC advised the youth.
The Director, Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, Prof Bashir Nehvi said more than 5500 books have been written on the philosophy of Allama Iqbal in a multitude of languages across the globe.
“Iqbal has rendered great contribution to Kashmir. He gave a voice to the people of Kashmir at a time when they needed it the most,” he said.       Head Department of Urdu and former Dean Faculty of Arts, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Abul Kalam Qasmi said: “Iqbal was one of the great poets and thinkers who studied the good and bad things in both the eastern and western societies and tried to reflect them in his works”.
Former HOD, Urdu, Delhi University and scholar on Iqbaliyat – Prof. Abdul Haq said that Iqbal was the only poet of the region on whom the most books have been written.
Head Department of Urdu, Allahabad University, Prof. Ali Ahmad Fatmi, thanked the organizers for conducting the seminar. “I look forward to hearing some useful papers on the topic from eminent scholars and academicians on the thought of Iqbal”.
