In spring, cold kills 5 nomads in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 22: In rarest of the rare incident in Kashmir, five nomads were killed due to severe cold wave and rains in upper reaches of Kulgam district in spring season.
Reports reaching the summer capital said five nomads, including two children succumbed to chill and torrential rains at Jagimarg Bahek in Pir Panjal range in Kulgam district. The reports said their livestock was also hit and about 150 sheep were killed.
“The nomads were coming from Reasi with livestock. However, after it started to rain and snow heavily they stopped at the Jajimarg area in Kulgam. Due to cold and rainfall, five nomads were killed. Rescue operations were immediately launched and 17 people and 350 sheep were safely escorted to Zamstal,” police said.
However, it said the bodies could not be retrieved till due to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, three students were injured after being struck by lightening in Kokernag area of Islamabad district. Official said the lightening struck a walnut tree at middle school Pari and three students standing near it got injured. They were hospitalized.
