Join book review sessions: Prof Punjabi to students, scholars

Srinagar, Apr 23: To mark the world book and copyright day, a book review session on “The Limits of Influence: America’s Role in Kashmir” by Howard B Schaffer was organized by Iqbal Library Kashmir University in the campus on Thursday.
The KU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Riyaz Punjabi reviewed the book and won acclaim from scholars, students and academicians.
Terming it as “documentation of events,” Prof. Punjabi said the book more aptly provides the young, an opportunity to look at the web of diplomatic world. “Diplomatic wars are more treacherous than the battlefield” he opined
He said students must research and read other opinions to have better understanding. VC asked the scholars to attend more book review sessions and said such sitting would help them grow.
Prof Punjabi praised the efforts of Librarian and his staff for making University library system vibrant.
The panelists included Prof. Noor A Baba, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, and Z G Mohammed, Columnist, Greater Kashmir.
Two students of the University, Sajad A Darzi, M Phil scholar, and Ashiq H Guroo from Dept of MFC, were also felicitated for utilizing resources in Allama Iqbal Library.
Rare books were donated by a philanthropist, Nisar Hussain Geelani to the library. He said the bouquet consists of books were in Persian and were as old as 150-years. The VC assured the donor that the university would take appropriate measures to preserve the books.
G H Gurkhoo, Editor Education Mail also donated two volumes of his newspaper to the library.
Chief Librarian, Prof. Riyaz Rufai discussed about utility of books and importance of copyrights. Earlier, VC inaugurated an exhibition on the books of Jammu and Kashmir.
Deans of Faculties of KU, Heads of the departments and senior professors and university officials were present on the occasion.
