Crackdown on Govt vehicles
4 cabs seized, 6 challaned
GK CITY CORRESPONDENT
Srinagar, Apr 24: The Traffic Police department on Saturday started a special drive against the government vehicles seizing at-least four cabs while six were challaned under various offences.
The police officials said a cab of Power Development Department (PDD) and one of the Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar were seized for not having the requisite documents. A vehicle of a Senior Research Officer was also seized for the offence.
Two vehicles of the Health department were challaned because the drivers didn’t have the Driving Licence.
Sources said one of the cabs was working with a senior medico at the Government Medical College Srinagar.
A vehicle of the Fisheries Department was fined as the driver didn’t have the DL. Similar was the case of a BSNL cab.
“Basically, we don’t want anybody to raise eyebrows that we are biased in our duties,” said a senior official in the traffic police adding that the drive would continue.
Pertinently, just two days ago, the department had called a high level meeting where a crackdown of the government vehicles was proposed as a disciplinary measure.
