Mirwaiz under house arrest

Police detains Hurriyat (M) activists

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Apr 24:  Police on Saturday foiled attempts by Hurriyat Conference (M) activists to stage a sit-in to protest human rights violations by placing chairman of the amalgam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest and detained about 25 activists.
Hurriyat had called for a silent sit-in at Partap Park to protest the death sentence to three persons in Lajpat Nagar blast and express solidarity with Kashmiri prisoners.
However, police and paramilitary troops sealed the Partap Park Saturday morning to thwart the attempt of Hurriyat activists to stage a sit-in.
At least 25 activists of Hurriyat including executive member Masoor Abbas Ansari and chairperson of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja, were detained by police at Lal Chowk when they tried to lead a procession from Court Road to Partap Park.
