University students protest Lajpat Nagar death sentences
MOAZUM MUHAMMAD
Srinagar, Apr 24: The Kashmir University students Saturday staged protest demonstrations at the campus against the death sentence to three persons, including two Kashmiris, for their alleged involvement in 1996 Lajpat Nagar blast case.
Students from all the departments rallied in the varsity raising slogans against the Delhi Court verdict affecting the normal class work.
The students demanded the release of a KU student of Islamic studies languishing in the jail for past several years.
“Rather than custodial killings and disappearances, it is a new Indian strategy to detain and impose death penalties against innocent Kashmiris,” shouted a group of female students.
The protesters later dispersed peacefully on reaching Sir Syed gate.
