Excess violence

Over three thousand studies have been conducted during the 40 years in the US alone that suggest that there is a correlation between social aggression and the viewing of violence on the big and small screens. According to the American psychological association, by the time an average American child is ten or eleven years old, he would have seen 8000  murders and 10000 acts of violence on television. Few studies on subject have been conducted in India, suggesting that Indian children are not yet exposed to the excess violence like American children, at least on the television front. However, with the arrival of satellite television which is dominated by American films and television programs, the Indian children are likely to get exposed to more and more violence. We might be convinced that violence is a part of our society and that it is even glamorous to be aggressive. But it might lead us to believe that some groups (for instance, tribals, dalits or leftists) are naturally violent and such stereotypes must endure.
