GK NEWS NETWORK
Sopur, Apr 27: This north Kashmir town, nearly 50 km from Srinagar, observed a complete shutdown on Tuesday to protest against the killing of a cable operator, Ashiq Hussain, who was shot dead by the unidentified gunmen last week.
All the shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic remained off the roads as hundreds of people thronged Hussain’s residence to express solidarity with his family on his Charum.
Witnesses said that the clashes erupted in the town in the afternoon as youth took to the streets and tried staging demonstrations. Police and paramilitary CRPF troopers baton charged them and fired tear smoke canisters to disperse them. Protesters formed small groups and fought pitched battles with police till late in the evening.
Sources said that at least 13 persons were wounded in the clashes.
