B’pore still cut-off from Sopur town
10-days After Diversion Wash-Off
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Bandipora, Apr 28: The residents of Bandipora in north Kashmir are disconnected from Sopur town for the past 10-days after the road link was washed away due to heavy rains. The residents told Greater Kashmir that the town was cut off after the diversion constructed on nallah Madhumati in Bandipora for vehicular and pedestrian movement till completion of bridge was washed away. With no help from administration after the incident, the people were using tractors and trucks to pass through gushing waters apart from boats during the first two days. “They were charging us Rs five to ten to cross the stream, but administration stopped them from ferrying people as it could have proven fatal,” a student Nazir Ahmed told Greater Kashmir. Three days after the diversion was washed away, the administration constructed footbridge by laying two poplar poles across the stream. “This footbridge is unsafe for ailing and feeble,” said Iqbal Lone a resident. “The students and government employees are worst hit by absence of the connectivity as they cannot reach schools and offices on time,” the residents added. When contacted, the additional deputy commissioner Bandipora, Hassan Khan said they had taken up the issue with Army. “We have raised up the issue with Army and they are awaiting sanction from 15 Corps. Once they would get green signal, material for bridge would come,” he said, adding the pedestrian movement footbridge had been constructed for time being.
