Free registration of crime: JK Govt clueless

GK NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi, April 28: The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, Mullappally Ramachandran, today said there was no proposal with the Government of India for e-registration of FIRs through public kiosks.
In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, he said that a review committee on police reforms, constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, however had made a recommendation for ‘Free Registration of Crime.’ The recommendation was sent to all States/UTs for implementation as police is a state subject, he said.
When contacted, the J&K Law Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar, told Greater Kashmir that he doesn’t know anything about the recommendation.
“I will have to enquire about it but right now I don’t have any information,” he said.
Senior police officials also expressed ignorance about the recommendation. “We don’t have any information,” IGP Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad, told Greater Kashmir.
