Metrology department fines petrol pumps, conceals names

Srinagar, Apr 28: The enforcement team of Legal Metrology department, Srinagar headed by Assistant Controllers raided some petrol pumps and fined them for cheating the consumers. The department, however, didn’t reveal their names.
An official handout said: “A consumer purchased petrol for Rs 1000/- from the petrol pump but to his surprise the fuel meter attached to the tank of the vehicle did not indicate any change. It was observed on inspection that the petrol delivery boy at the pump station has manipulated the nozzle of the pump and deceived the consumer.”
The incharge of the pump was served a notice on the spot and was directed to pay the consumer Rs 1000 back with additional Rs 1000 as compensation for his mental agony. The pump incharge was fined Rs 4000 for the lapse.
In another case a petrol pump was found delivering 40 ml short in 5 litres, the handout said.
The functions of the pump were seized and a fine of Rs 4000 was imposed on spot.
“The consumers are requested to check the delivery of petrol pumps themselves by a five litre brass measure which remains available in the pump station in case they doubt the correctness of the pump or call on the phone number 2105756,” the handout added.
