BAJ for Jammu bandh on April 6

Jammu, Apr 2: The Bar Association of Jammu today called for Jammu bandh on April 6 if the government did not withdraw Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Certificate bill introduced in the legislative council by April 5.
 “The government allowed the bill to be introduced in the Upper House with a malafide intension though it is a constitutional amendment bill and could have only been introduced in the legislative assembly,” BAJ President, Sunil Sethi told reporters here.
 The bill, introduced by the PDP, seeks cancellation of permanent resident rights of domicile women marrying outside J&K.
 Accompanied by five leaders of different organisations, he said the bill had “greater ramifications” as the women would lose their state subject if they marry to an outsider.
 He said that representatives of over 20-organisations held discussions on the issue and call for Jammu bandh on April 6 if the government does not take steps to get the bill withdrawn in the Council before or by April 5, the last day of the budget session.
 We have also called a meeting of Jammu legislators on April 4 to impress upon them that the bill was “anti-people and anti-Jammu,” he said.
