Fund diversion by DSWO raked up in LC

Jammu, Apr 3: The government has taken up with the Accountant General’s Office the matter regarding diversion/re-appropriation of funds without any proper allocation by then District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar, Irshad Ahmad Sofi and the case is under examination for initiating appropriate proceedings against he retired officer.
 This, according to an official statement, was stated by the Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo in reply to a question of   Altaf Ahmad Wani in Legislative Council today. 
 She said during 2005-06, an amount of Rs. 66.45 lakhs had been drawn from the treasury by the then District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar for providing pension to the registered beneficiaries of Tehsil Srinagar, Ganderbal and Kangan under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme.
 The Minister said an amount of Rs. 62.32 lakhs was advanced to the Tehsil Social Welfare Officer for disbursement of the amount drawn. The remaining amount of Rs. 4.12 lakhs was retained by the then District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar.
