CD hospital main gate closure triggers resentment
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Apr 7: The closure of main gate of the Chest Disease Hospital at Drugjan has evoked strong resentment from the shopkeepers and locals.
A delegation from the area said the hospital authorities closed the gate facing the main market. “The hospital authorities closed its main gate without any reason. They have constructed an alternative route bypassing the market. This will affect the business of medical and other shops,” the locals said.
The aggrieved locals said during the past over a century, they have been cooperating with the hospital authorities to ensure better patient care.
“When the hospital was proposed to be shifted to Rainawari, the locals there had opposed it. Despite threat of infection from the hospital, we never opposed its functioning. We have risked our lives during fire incidents and other emergencies in the hospital to ensure its smooth running,” they said.
The locals threatened to launch an agitation against the hospital authorities if the gate was not opened.
However, the Medical Superintendent of CD hospital, Mushtaq Ahmad said the gate was closed in view of undue interference in the hospital’s functioning by “some people”.
“Besides, the route through Dalgate market remains congested and during emergencies it was difficult for us to shift the patients to other hospitals. The gate has been closed for better patient care,” he said.
