Court orders release of Ashraf Sehrai

HC quashes detention of Masarat, Sumji

Srinagar, Apr 8: The Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam today ordered release of senior Hurriyat (G) leader Ashraf Sehrai while the High Court quashed the PSA detention of Hurriyat (G) leader Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Muslim League leader Masarat Alam Bhat.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam. Sehrai had been already acquitted from three cases against him and the High Court has quashed his PSA.
During the hearing the judge ordered the government to release the detainee within 30 minutes.
Subsequently, he was released and the SHO Sadder, Nazir Ahmad, dropped him at his home in accordance with the Court directions.
Meanwhile, the High Court has quashed the detention of ML leader Masarat Alam Bhat and ordered his release. Masarat is presently lodged in Kathua jail. The High Court also ordered release of Ghulam Nabi Sumji. Sumji is presently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar. However, he has not been released so far.
