Prof Punjabi for promotion of Urdu

Srinagar, Apr 8: The Kashmir University Thursday formed a coordination committee to devise ways to strengthen Urdu language in the state. This was decided at a high level meeting chaired by the KU Vice-Chancellor , Prof Riyaz Punjabi. The members from Urdu Academy besides senior officials of KU attended the meeting.
Prof Punjabi advocated the need to merge Urdu with technology in the contemporary education scenario.
“Technology needs to be promoted at all levels and more so in the stream of Urdu. Technology is the only way ahead,” he added. He sought to introduce new Urdu language softwares in consultation with the concerned authorities.
It was decided that a two-day state level seminar on challenges faced by Urdu , which is the official language of the state, would be held this year.
The KU will also organize conferences and workshops over the next few years for the revival of Urdu language in the state.
The VC said all the departments would soon have signboards in Urdu
along with English having a uniform
colour scheme and font.
Prof Punjabi stressed the need to strengthen Urdu related infrastructure in the University and its allied institutions.
The Director of Iqbal Institute of Culture & Philosophy, Prof B A Nehvi, assured the institute would send complementary copies of their publications to the library of the Urdu Academy. The meeting was attended by the Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. A R Yousuf, Registrar Prof. S Fayyaz Ahmed, Director Directorate of Distance Education, Prof. Shafeeqa Parveen , Head Department of Urdu, Prof. Majeed Muzmir, other officials from the department of Urdu, Noor Shah, President Urdu academy and Javed Matjee, Secretary Urdu Academy.
