Kashmir dispute has three parties and all of them are equally responsible for complicating it. If Pakistan had not invaded Kashmir in 1947, may be things would have been different. If India had kept its promise of holding plebiscite, the problem would have been over. If Kashmiri leadership had shown unity, we would not have been at the mercy of India and Pakistan. Had Kashmiri leadership pressed for Independence as it is doing now, the situation might have been otherwise. Also both parts of Kashmir suffer at the hands of India and Pakistan. New Delhi always toppled the elected governments at their own will. New Delhi did not even spare Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and nourished his deputy and toppled him and put him behind bars. Farooq Abdullah was toppled and G.M.Shah came in. Then came the turning point of 1987 elections and everybody is aware of its genuineness. Most of the separatists of today have been part of the election process in Kashmir and it cannot be blamed on them that they never tried to be part of the solution but India’s continued interference and lack of trust on democratically elected representatives has dismayed all. The tale of the other side of Kashmir is no different than ours. They too have the Government that suits Islamabad.
