CPI (M) YOUTH WING PROTEST AGAINST KASHMIR KILLINGS
New Delhi, Aug 10: The Democratic Youth Federation of India and the Students’ Federation of India held a demonstration against the Kashmir killings at Parliament Street here on Tuesday
Students from Delhi University, JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia and youth activists participated in the demonstration in which, CPI (M) State Secretary, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami also participated.
Addressing the gathering, Tarigami criticized both the Centre and State Government for not taking steps to address the situation and restore normalcy in the state. He said one month had passed since All Party’s Meeting was held in Srinagar. “It was expected that the Prime Minister would visit Kashmir himself. It was unfortunate that even when the Parliament was in session no delegation of Parliament Members visited the valley.”
This, he said, reflects the insensitive approach of the Centre towards the aspirations of the people of Kashmir, which had resulted in more disillusionment.
Tarigami criticized BJP who, according to him was justifying the excesses committed by the armed forces and advocating high handed means in the state. He said “these forces were a threat to the unity of the country.”
He said the excesses by Police and other armed forces must be condemned in unequivocal terms.
Other who spoke on the occasion demanded revocation of black laws, release of all political prisoners and youngsters who have been recently taken into custody. They also demanded time bound inquiry into the recent killings saying a political process involving meaningful political dialogue should be started to find a solution to the current situation in the state. They also demanded that the J&K economy should be restructured to provide meaningful employment to the youth.
