Cross-LoC trade remains suspended
RABIA NOOR
Srinagar, Aug 10: The intra-Kashmir cross-LoC weekly trade remained suspended on Tuesday for the second consecutive week in the wake of strict curfew enforced in the Valley.
The officials at the Trade Facilitation Centre Salamabad, Uri, told Greater Kashmir over phone that an Association of the Valley based traders had conveyed to them they were not going to trade this week. With the result, no items were exchanged between two parts of Kashmir via Uri-Muzaffarabad route on Tuesday.
“Like last week, traders have conveyed to us that since the prevailing conditions in the Valley were not conducive for the trade, it’s better to call off the trade this week as well,” said Muhammad Ashraf Wani, Trade Facilitation Officer TFC Salamabad and general manager DIC Varmul.
“Under such circumstances, it becomes nearly impossible to offload goods from the trucks and then supply them to the markets,” he added.
Meanwhile, the traders lamented that they were suffering losses worth lakhs of rupees owing to the curfews, “for the goods imported from PaK could not be traded in the local markets.”Wani, however, said the trade was likely to resume next week, “provided a diversion near Laal Pul (a bridge), through which the trucks pass, is repaired.”
To mention, this is for the third time in past few weeks that no trade was conducted via Uri-Muzaffarabad route due to the prevailing turbulent situations in the Valley.
