Crackdown intensified on youth: Aasiya

Srinagar, Aug 12: The Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi on Thursday accused the authorities of intensifying crackdown on the youth for protesting over the civilian killings by the troopers and cops.
In a statement, Aasiya said the ongoing ‘Quit Jammu and Kashmir movement’ reached its peak due to sacrifices rendered by 53 youth and teenagers.
“But today there is nobody now who are their heirs. Till yesterday these youth were heroes. Now they are being labeled as activists of mainstream parties and Ikhwanis ironically by none other than some pro-freedom leaders,” she said.
Without naming anybody, she said some leaders had vowed not to come out of jail till the youth arrested during the ongoing unrest were released. “But they did not live up to their promise and expectations as our youth are being arrested and pushed behind bars,” she said.
Aasiya accused the mainstream parties of preparing the list of the youth and but were scared to get them arrested.
